On this episode of Digital Dialogue, Katelyn and Scott are discussing their tips for running a successful blog! We have our own way of doing things here at Yelling Mule, but we definitely share some great tips in this podcast that anyone starting or maintaining a blog can benefit from.

If you are looking for more information on blogging in general, be on the lookout for our full blog post on Thursday! First, we present our #socialmediaminute covering two stories that we found interesting from the social media sphere.

Facebook’s Testing a New Stories like News Feed

Facebook is currently testing a new feed layout that enables users to side-scroll through the posts in their feed. Once a user taps into the first post, they can then side-scroll through the rest of the content in their feed, essentially switching the News Feed into its own Stories format.

Facebook’s experiment would also merge feed and Stories content into one stream. So the side-swipe takes the user from a regular feed post to a story, moving through both types in one process.

Instagram is Testing Hiding “Like Counts” to Reduce Focus on Vanity Metrics

Instagram is possibly going to make an absolutely drastic change to the way that people interact with their app. Instagram stated recently that, “We want your followers to focus on what you share, not how likes your posts get”. This is obviously an effort to make people less consumed with how many likes their posts receive and by doing so hoping that people are more willing to share without the downside of not receiving a lot of likes.

Given the evidence that social media is affecting some people’s mental health, it is worth the experiment to see if somehow we reduce the emphasis on portraying only things that will get a lot of likes, that’s something to be encouraged.
