On this week’s episode of our podcast Digital Dialogue, we spoke with YM designers Lindsey and Emily. They recently enrolled in a new class to receive their Google UX Design Professional Certificate. Below we answer a few key questions about what user experience is and why it’s important.
What is a UX Designer?
In most cases, user experience (UX) designers focus on the overall experience users have when using a website, app or physical object. Their goal is make everyday interaction more efficient and accessible to all. A few responsibilities an entry level UX designer may have includes but is not limited to addressing user problems, conducting research about user experience, and designing wireframes, mockups and prototypes.
What lessons make up the Google UX Design Professional Certificate?
There are 7 courses within this program. Each course is broken into four week increments.

How would the Google UX Design Professional Certificate help designers with their current roles?
This certificate will help with every single project a web designer may be a part of for many reasons. The first being, having the tools to understand the project as not just a tangible item, but an overall experience. This in turn affects all aspects of not only the final product but the entire experience from discovery to launch. This course work will also help create a better experience for clients by being able to talk more professionally about user problems, research, and more.
