How To

SEO (search engine optimization) is a vital part of any digital marketing plan. Emplacing an effective SEO strategy can help increase your website’s visibility in search engine results. To help with the process, here are a few basic ways to help you keep or earn that #1 spot on search engines.

Keywords

Keywords can play a key role in your SEO strategy. Keywords are words and phrases used to describe what your content is all about. These words and phrases can be placed in the following places

  • Title
  • Meta Description- write a unique one
  • URL
  • In the content itself–ideally sticking to 3-4 keywords
  • The canonical tag- which is a way of telling search engines that a specific URL represents the master copy of a page.

It’s important to do plenty of research when choosing your keywords. Make sure you select ones that people are actually using to search for your service or product. These words will be the most effective in regards to your SEO. Taking a look at your competitors’ drop-down menus or navigational menus is an easy way to help you in this selection process too.

Continue to Post Relevant Content

The content you share on your website plays a huge role in your SEO. You want to make sure the content on your site is relevant and engaging enough to your audience that they keep returning for future information. It is extremely beneficial to update your content regularly. When your content is outdated it makes users abandon your site quickly, which will have a negative effect on your ranking. Another great way to avoid poor placement is incorporating keywords and outbound links in your content.

Helpful User Experience

By ensuring your website is fast, has easy navigation, and clear readability, you’re more likely to be ranked higher on search engines, which work in favor of the user by ranking the most helpful sites first. Guaranteeing that your site is mobile friendly is also beneficial to your overall placement. Over the last couple of years, Google has been using Mobile-First Index, which means search listings are based on whether or not a site’s content is mobile or not. Your mobile content will appear first in search results even if you are searching from a desktop. That’s why it is so important to verify that your site is coded correctly to be mobile optimized so you won’t be penalized in the search results.
